WMO RAVI WG-CH meeting Helsinki 12-14 March 2013 Background • The TT consists of members from 14 countries. • Kick off meeting in Norrköping in September 2010 • Further contacts within the TT has been via mail. • The TT has issued three reports (March, October 2011) and August 2012. The fourth report is under preparation.

WMO RAVI WG-CH meeting Helsinki 12-14 March 2013 The Tasks in the work plan • Support the NMHS:s and promote cooperation between meteorologists and hydrologists. • To look at the use of probabilities in both meteorological and hydrological forecasts in order to improve the hydrological forecasts/warnings, for all kind of floods. • To look at methods for estimating the uncertainties propagating within the forecasting process from observation to hydrological forecasts/warnings. • To look at methods for verification. • To look at methods for forecasting flash floods, including both meteorological and hydrological inputs. • To look at methods for low flood forecasting. • To monitor the process of making EFAS operational

WMO RAVI WG-CH meeting Helsinki 12-14 March 2013 Reporting on the progress • The TT has been looking into the methods in its tasks and have reported on its progress in the 3 reports published so far. The reports have been disseminated within the TT and can be found on the WMO RAVI web • http://www.wmo.int/pages/prog/dra/eur/RA6_WG_CH_WrkProg.php • The TT have via reports informed about interesting events, reports, publications, links etc. • The TT also followed the transition of EFAS into an operational pan-European pre warning/alert system.

WMO RAVI WG-CH meeting Helsinki 12-14 March 2013 Remarks • About a third of the TT-members have actively participated with input to the work. • The TT has had contact with TT-HMEWS but with no other bodies. (It would be important to find structured ways to liaise with i.e. CHy). • Almost all work (except following EFAS) has been on gathering information and reporting on it. If the TT is to continue it is proposed to define clearer deliverables for the tasks.

WMO RAVI WG-CH meeting Helsinki 12-14 March 2013 Coming activities • Flood Forecasting and warning is an important issue and should be considered also in future activities within the WG. • The TT has so far worked a lot with i looking at and reporting on methods, now is time to make use of that going into concrete actions. One example could be EFAS. • I will not personally have the possibility to continua but if found useful, Sweden can provide a new TT-leader (or similar)
