The New E-Certification System 2014 WA-ACTE ConferenceYakima, WA Kelli Bennett Certification Specialist, CTE Specialist OSPI-Professional Certification Kelli.Bennett@k12.wa.us
The New E-Certification System • To better serve educators, policymakers and public, OSPI is improving the technology that supports certification. • An 18 month project is nearing completion to upgrade the e-Certification system to enhance access to certification functions for educators and school districts. • An underlying goal is to promote clear communications and streamline acquiring and maintaining educator credentials.
CTE and E-Certification V-Codes/Endorsements • Professional Certification refers to VCODES as endorsements. VCODES and CIP codes are not a certification term used and the Professional Certification office has no authority over them. From today on, let’s try to use the word ENDORSEMENT instead of VCODES when talking to OSPI certification. (me) • Below is the link for the endorsements (VCODE table) • http://www.k12.wa.us/certification/CTE/pubdocs/CTEAssignment.pdf
E-Certification • Adding CTE Endorsements • There is now an application on the CTE website for teachers to add a CTE endorsement (Specialty area) to their Initial or Continuing CTE certificates. It is called “Adding a specialty area”. This is not an on-line application. Applicant must print the application off, fill it out and send to OSPI with the $34.00 fee.
E-Certification • College Program Completers in the four broad areas of CTE • Agriculture, Business • Marketing Ed, • Family & Consumer Sciences and • Technical Ed The applicant will not only need to apply for the Initial CTE certificate, but also the basic Ed certificate called the Residency teacher and meet all requirements for the Residency teacher before the Initial CTE certificate can be issued. (new information is now on the CTE website)
Log into EDS E-Certification. • Click on “View my Applications” • Search by last name and last four of the Social Security number • (example is for a CTE Conditional)
E-Certification on-line applications To Search for educator go to “Search” page • Search by First Name and Date of Birth to begin with If no Return/Results: • Have educator create a login account and enter E-Certification to create a record If there are Return/Results • Note Last Name and Social Security (last four). • Click on appropriate applicant to view certification information/history
You will need the applicants last name and last four of their Social Security number.
You will need to use the date you are requesting and the end date of the class being taught. • Example: You can use 6/30/15 for this school year.
Unique and Special Circumstances for the CTE conditional • Qualifications • It will not allow you to leave blank
As you can see, the endorsements are listed in alphabetical order and with the endorsements(VCODES)
You have successfully submitted the district request form. (yeah!)
Applicant Screen
This is where the applicant will begin. • They will select “Apply for your district request here”.
The applicant will need to log into EDS Ecertificationand “claim the district request” and will be prompted to complete the application
This is what it will look like for the applicant. • OPEN vs PENDING REVIEW If you do not see any applications as “pending review” then the applicant has not claimed the request.
Permits: All permits that have been issued are under “permits” after you click on “select” for the certificate you are looking at.
The yellow highlighted certificate is the one that is selected. As you can see, the endorsements are listed for this individual has “Automotive Technology” and the VCODE is listed next to it.
