Primary Goal • Continue providing course content • Adapt delivery method • Remain true to the intent of the 140 hours of engaged learning design contained in the syllabus
Student and Campus Notifications • Weather and emergency cancellations handled by campus administration. • Notifications handled through media, website, phone calls to evening and weekend instructors, Simpson SAFE system. • Planned cancellations require notification to either Dean Griffith or Rosemary Link with educational plan
Student and Campus Notifications • Notify campus location also if not holding class for their notification • If you need help reaching students because of late notice, they can help contact students
Online Teaching Tools Available • Scholar • Camtasia • Email
Planned or Emergency Cancellations • These tools can be used whether you plan for an online class session to replace a scheduled face-to-face session or you experience an emergency cancellation due to weather or instructor personal emergency.
Scholar Tools Available • Add a resource for student to read and learn new material • PowerPoints from textbook publisher • Links to newspaper, journal articles • Link to Student Companion textbook website • Instructor Lecture Notes • Websites with valuable content

Scholar Tools Available • Create an Assignment or other Activity to help student manipulate material independently • Answer End of Chapter Questions from textbook • Answer “Think about it” Questions from Instructor Resources guides • Student submits chapter outlines or summaries to prove some competency • Student finds current events articles that demonstrate key learning ideas from chapter
Scholar Tools Available • Forum Discussions for students to teach each other • Have students provide key point summaries of course material for each other and share in the forum • Students create small video presentations for others to view about course material using Screen-Cast-O-Matic • Create discussion questions over key points of materials to mimic missed face-to-face discussion
Camtasia Video Lectures • Instructor records missed lecture using PowerPoint or other visible material • Can provide visual/audio lecture almost identical to lost face-to-face time • Easy to use • Lectures placed in Scholar • https://fog.simpson.edu/relay
Camtasia • Use the same username and password as all your Simpson accounts • Computer requires microphone for recording • Allows you to hold all your recordings on your own computer for future use
Email Students the Plan • Once the class session has been missed (if not pre-planned) then email them through Scholar Quickmail with the altered class plan • Change the Scholar course page to reflect the changed course plan
