DOI Mission To protect and provide access to our Nation’s natural and cultural heritage and honor our trust responsibilities to Indian tribes and our commitment to island communities
IOC Mission Coordinate and notify DOI personnel and provide assistance to the Incident Support Team (IST) during emergency incidents and in continuity of operations (COOP) situations
Day-to-Day Operations • Serves as the Department’s nerve center and single point of contact for information sharing and dissemination of law enforcement, security, emergency management, and intelligence information • Monitors White House and homeland security operation networks for changes in department and agency COOP alert and deployment options • Conducts communications tests at all alternate operating facility(ies) with applicable interagency partners daily • Provides DOI employees weather information, local/national emergency information
Periods of Heightened Alert • Provides situational awareness and decision support for the Secretary, senior staff, and IST during emergency incidents and in COOP situations • Tracks the locations of DOI senior leadership and their successors on a daily basis • Conducts communications tests at all DOI alternate operating facility(ies) and with applicable interagency partners daily • Coordinates and notifies DOI personnel during emergencies
Facts & Figures • Institutionalized after 9/11 • Operates 24/7 • Part of National and Regional Information Networks (NAWAS/WAWAS, EOCs) • Secure Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) is built to Director of Central Intelligence Directive (DCID) 6/9 standards. • SCIF is cleared to Top Secret/SCI with a resident Intel Analyst • Remainder of IOC is cleared to SECRET level and is secured through limited access and card control
