Family/Birth and Death • He was born in Kentucky on April 10,1796 and died March 6,1836,while sick with pneumonia and was shot three times in the head. • He had three brothers and their names were David, Rhesa , and John. • Him and his family move around a lot ,they moved to Missouri from Kentucky, then to Louisiana in 1802. • His wife was Ursula de Veramendi, who he married on April 25,1831 in San Antonio. • They had two children that died from a disease called cholera.
Career Before the Military • He had a job clearing land and sawing timber. • Also farmed and operated a gristmill or grain grinder with eight slaves.
Role Played At The Alamo • He was a captain • Also one of the men that cross the line that William Travis drew in the sand, at the fight for the Alamo.
Interesting Fact or Quote • Had killed a man in a fight. • He made a friendship with some Indians to try and find the reported silver and gold in Texas. • It was in Louisiana that he got his reputation for being bold and fearless. • It is known that he carried a big knife with him which we know as the “Bowie Knife.” • On October 5,1830,he became a Mexican citizen.
Description of Jim Bowie • He was six feet tall ,weighed 180 pounds, had light-colored hair, keen grey eyes, and you can’t change his mind once its been made. • Also had a fair complexion, high cheekbones, and had a very bad temper.
