  2. 2010 Regional Priority Activities • Coordinated Support to Evidence-based Advocacy for Investment in health to better engage Ministry of Finance, Parliamentarians and other partners to fund critical gaps: • Achievements • Draft African Investment Case was prepared by the HHA; • Draft Presentation made during the AU Summit in Kampala, July 2010 • Finalisation by the end of December 2010.

  3. 2010 Regional Priority Activities (cont’d) • Continued Support to Strengthening National Plans & Strategies to align resources with focus on MDGs: • Achievements • Joint IHP+/HHA Missions to Nigeria in support of the development of a Compact (expected to be signed by the end of Dec.2010) • Ongoing Mission planned for Niger. • Technical Support to Ethiopia for Joint MNH Programme/H4 in Ethiopia • Others that we can highlight?

  4. 2010 Regional Priority Activities (cont’d) • Enhanced Coordination and Communication within and among HHA Agencies: • Achievements • Regular teleconferences among the HHA Partners throughout the year although weaknesses in telecommunications continue to create challenges for participation; • Opportunities through regional meetings/conferences and other activities to strengthen coordination among the HHA Agencies were maximized, e.g., the African Investment Case Work.; AU Conference of Ministers of Health (CAMH4) on Maternal, Infant and Child Health ; 15th Ordinary Session of the AU ; UNSG Global Strategy for Women’s and Children’s Health; and other regional activities/meetings, etc. • HHA on-line developed although still needs to be populated and managed.

  5. 2010 Regional Priority Activities (cont’d) • Support to Accelerated PMTCT Response noting the link to MDG5 • Achievements • Technical Support to 22 countries on Integration of PMTCT into Global Fund proposals development and implementation (May 2010, in Nairobi) • Support to countries for the development of Global Fund Round 10 Proposals • 10 countries May be approved - Eritrea, Kenya, Uganda, Zambia and South Africa in ESA and also 5 more in WCA • Capacity-building of National Programme implementer on Linkage of SRH and HIV prevention, specific reference to PMTCT – UNFPA, Nairobi (May)

  6. 2010 Regional Priority Activities (cont’d) • Organisation and hosting of a high level meeting of MOF and MOH: • What was achieved? • an African Investment Case (AIC) has been developed, which demonstrates an opportunity to save millions of lives as well as prevent life-long disabilities, achieve wide economic benefits – how health can contribute to the economic growth, and ensure social and political stability; • a concept note has been drafted on the creation of a common understanding of more money for health and a more effective use of money for health as a key factors of economic growth and sustainable development in Africa; • an agenda has been drafted, proposing the sessions & themes that will lead to the ultimate goal of the Joint Ministerial Dialogue; • an estimated Ministerial Conference budget has been produced. • Consultation with the AU and ECA

  7. 2010 Regional Priority Activities (cont’d) • Coordinated Support to Maternal, Newborn and Child Health • Support to Launching of CARMMA (Campaign on Accelerated Reduction of Maternal Mortality in Africa) and the Follow-up Action in 17 countries in 2010, making a total of 25 countries so far • Support to African Union Commission (AUC) to undertake Review of Implementation of the Maputo Plan of Action and the Expert Meeting • Inter-Agency Review of the MNH Road Maps (April/May) • Support to the AUC/AU for the organization of the July 2010 AU Summit on maternal, Infant and Child Health (including a main plenary Presidential Panel on MNCH and a Ministerial Panel on Health Financing • Support 19 African to prepare Commitment for UN SG’s Global Strategy on Women and Children’s Health (April-Sept 2010) • Parliamentary meeting of Chairs of National Budget and Finance Committees and Pan-African Parliament on July 2010 AU Summit Outcome to ensure Health Finance (Oct 2010) • Technical Support to Countries for the development and implementation of National Health Development Plans/MNH Road Maps/H4
