Canopy Shelters • City awarded $430,000 in grant funds by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). • City used $100,000 to purchase and install bus shelters for various bus stops. Public art incorporated into each shelter. • The remaining $330,000 will be used to design and construct additional shelter at the Ventura Transfer Center (VTC).
Canopy Shelters • VTC was constructed in 2002 • Located at the north end of the Pacific View Mall • Utilized by Gold Coast Transit and VISTA • Approximately 1,800 passengers per day with layovers between five minutes to one hour. • Amenities at the VTC include restrooms, vending machines, seating areas and an informational kiosk.
Canopy Shelters • VTC was designed/constructed in partnership with artist Dennis Oppenheim. • Incorporated major public art piece on east end of the VTC – Bus Home. • Lack of shelter at VTC • Currently, there are about 18 sheltered spots for passengers.
Canopy Shelters • New shelter system will be constructed in the center of the VTC. • Least amount of impact to the site. • Shelter system consists of two umbrella type canopies and extending roofline of kiosk. • Specially designed benches. • Shelter for approx. 30 people
Canopy Shelters • Rectangular/circular steel tubing for roof supports and aluminum sheet metal for roof. • Color to be mixture of turquoise and bright red to match Bus-Home. • LED lighting on under-side of canopies
Canopy Shelters • Staff is soliciting comments on the conceptual plans as presented.
