CLB Survey One new county was found positive in 2008
Eggs were collected from all three previous release areas or insectaries, including the insectary and a nearby field in Banks, the insectary field in Scholls, Washington County, and the two previous release fields in Scio, Linn Co. All samples were negative for Anaphes. Host plants - Spring oats, barley and wheat
Highest rate of T. julis parasitism in each county where recovered Note: counties with lowest parasitism rates were emphasized for releases. Rates are partly dependent on collection time: see phenology chart. Highest parasitism rates are still seen at the very end of the season, but Umatilla had very high rate during first T.j. generation.
Estimated numbers of parasitized CLB larvae and T. julis released for each listed county *Assumes an average of 5 T. julis per CLB larva
Summary • One new county was positive for CLB in 2008. Number of CLB infested counties in OR is 20. • Overall CLB populations in OR were low and development was delayed by about 1-2 weeks. • Anaphes flavipes parasitism rates were zero for the second year after steadily decreasing since 2005. • Tetrastichus julis continues to establish and spread in new release areas. Rates of 100% are still being reached by season’s end. T. julis redistribution was focused in central Oregon.
Thanks • This work doesn’t get done without the help of many people: • Additional USDA staff are Colin Park, Travis McFettridge, Gavin Carmen • Donavon Hampton with ODA • Darrin Wallenta, Mylen Bohle, Bob Crocker, and all the OSU field station associates, industry folks, and growers that make finding and using fields possible.
