Vegetation There are no trees or wildlife in the Innuitian Mountains due to the harsh cold climate as well as being located north of the Arctic tree line. This region is mostly barren and vast areas mainly have permafrost. The mountains are buried by ice sheets.
Water Bodies The Innuitian Region is surrounded by the Arctic Ocean. However, there are waterways that are nearby, such as Parry Channel and Baffin Bay.
Land Shape Erosion has not yet worn down mountains.
Rocks and Minerals • There are metallic minerals including iron and zinc and non-metallic minerals such as coal. • The Innuitian Mountains contain igneous and metamorphic rocks, but for the most part are composed of sedimentary rock.
Iron Iron is a strong, hard magnetic silvery-grey metal, much used as a material for construction and manufacturing, especially in the form of steel.
Zinc Zinc is a silvery-white metal which is a constituent of brass and is used for coating iron and steel to protect against corrosion.
Coal . Coal is a combustible black or dark brown rock consisting chiefly of carbonized plant matter, found mainly in underground seams and used as fuel.
Soil • Soil is not great or fertile. • The soil layers in the mountain’s are mainly made up of the regolith and bedrock layers.
Major cities: • Pond Inlet - one of Canada’s “Jewel of the north” • Clyde River - located in the Baffin mountains • Broughton Island - Qikiqtarjuaq “The Big Island”
Broughton Island Some activities that you can do in Broughton island are dog sledding and snowmobiling tours.
Clyde river Some activities to do while you are in Clyde River are go on hiking, kennel, and snowmobiling tours.
Pond Inlet Some things to do while staying in Pond Inlet are, whale watching, kayaking, and going on fishing trips.
Climate • The climate in the mountains is a harsh and cold environment. There is little rainfall throughout the year and the temperature can get extremely cold.
Industries • Hunting • Tourism • Mining • There are many minerals that can be mined in the Mountain’s, but since the temperatures can reach extremely low below zero, it is very hard to do any mining. Overall, hardly any work has been done in the Mountain’s
Tourism Attractions • There are five national parks within the Innuitian Mountains, such as the Auyuittuq national park. • Human establishments: Pond Inlet, Clyde River, Broughton Island
