Arch of Titus • The Arch was built in honor of the emperor Titus • Titus plundered the Great Jewish temple in Jerusalem • The sculptures on the arch show the treasures of the Jews • It is on the opposite end of the Arch of Septimus Severus

Arch of Septimus Severus • Displays images of Septimus’ victories in Iraq and Iran during the 3rd century • Also honors his two sons: Caracalla and Getawho fought along side him during the war • The arch is located at the end of the Forum
Temple of Saturn • Was a monument to the agricultural god; Saturn • Served as the public treasury • Used as a repository for the decrees made by the Senate • It is located at the foot of the Capitoline Hill in the western end of the Roman Forum
Temple of Saturn It is the oldest temple in the forum. It was built during the period of the of the kings in Rome.
Basilica of Maxentius • It was the last structure built in Rome showing the magnificence of the city • Used as Rome’s public law courts • This basilica inspired the plans for St. Peter’s basilica in the Vatican • Basilica = an oblong building ending in a semi-circular apse used in Ancient Rome especially for a court of justice and place of public assembly
Basilica of Maxentius It is located in the heart of Ancient Rome. It was the largest building in the Forum.
Temple of Antoninus & Faustina • It is the best preserved building in the Forum • The emperor, AntoninusPius, lost his wife, Faustina, in honor of her he built a glorious temple • During the Middle Ages, the temple became the church of “San Lorenzo in Miranda”
Temple of Antoninus and Faustina The temple was located on the north side of the Sacra via at the entrance to the forum, just east of the Basilica Aemilia.
The Curia (Senate House) • The largest brick building that still has a roof in the Forum • Used as the Roman Senate building • The building was believed to be constructed by TullusHostilius
The Roman Curia It is located at the foot of the Capitoline Hill, near the Comitium.
Regia • A shrine considered to be the home of the king • It later became the office of the high priest in the Roman religion • It was located between the Temple of Vesta, the Temple of Divus Julius and Temple of Antoninus and Faustina in the Forum Romanum
The Regia It was originally the residence of the Roman Kings.
Temple of Castor & Pollox • Near the spring of Juturna, where the heroes were reportedly seen watering their horses after helping the Romans at the Battle of Lake Regillus • Temple housing cult of the heroes Castor and Pollox
Tabularium • State Record Office on the east slope of the Capitoline Hill • Provided a backdrop to the Forum on the East, masking the slope of the Capitoline Hill
Temple of Concord • Temple on west side of the Forum, housing cult honoring civic harmony • Great temple dedicated to the goddess, Concordia, located on the NW side of the Forum
Temple of the Deified Vespasian • Imperial cult temple commemorating the emperors, Vesapasian and Titus, located to the South of Temple of Concord and to the west of the Temple of Saturn
Temple of the deified Julius Caesar • Temple honoring the deified Julius Caesar, built on the site where the crowd attending his funeral burnt his corpse after the funeral oration of M. Antonius
Basilica Julia • Civic basilica housing a court as well as shops • Located on the Southern side of the Forum between the Temple of Saturn to the west and Temple of Castor to the east
Temple of Vesta • Temple housing archaic cult of the goddess, Vesta, on the eastern side of the Forum
Basilica Aemila • Civic basilica with shops on the North side of the Forum • Located on the Argileton to the west and along the Sacra Via to the south • Considered one of Rome’s most impressive public monuments
