EU project: eEurope smart cards BELGIUM: pilot in 11 local authorities, general distibution at the beginning of 2003 FINLAND: operational from Dec-1999, eID an official travel document in 19 EU countries (29 EURO) FRANCE: study of poss. appl. (identification, authentication, dig. signing), Ministry of Home Affairs GERMANY: 1.000 delivered eID, deployment planed in 2002-2003 IRELAND: pilot will start at the beginning of 2003 NETHERLANDS: the use of smart cards should be possible by the end of this year NORWAY: project in pilot phase, under study for possible applications (healthcare, assurance, ...)
