  3. Characteristics of school libraries: Most familiar library. Called the library media centre or school library multimedia centre. It is where many young people first learn about the library Purpose is to support the school curriculum. Provide materials for you research project such as reference books, biographies, journals and multimedia resources.

  4. Characteristics of public libraries: Open to everyone, free of charge. Designed to serve their communities Costs lots of money to keep a library open. LIBRARY OF CONGRESS NEW YORK PUBLIC LIBRARY

  5. Characteristics of academic/university libraries: More specialized than a school or public library. Contains thousands or millions of new and rare books, professional or academic periodicals and online resources Libraries at colleges and universities serve a community of students and professors as well as some outside researchers and authors. Medical, law and business schools have libraries that help scholars conduct research that might unearth facts about prehistoric life.

  6. Characteristics of special libraries: • Serves the people in organizations of many sizes. • For example: • Law firms • Advertising agencies • Newspapers • Religious institutions • Book publishers • Zoos • Museums • Prisons

  7. Students will be required to do a project on Types of Libraries The project must meet the following requirements: The project should be arranged in a folder with the following: 1. Title page 2. Bio data page (Name, Form, Subject, Teacher) 3.Table of Contents 4. Introduction 5. Body in chapters 6.Bibliography – MLA format Marking Scheme: Content – 55 marks Presentation- 20 marks Following instructions -5 marks Bibliography – 10 marks Grammar- 10 marks
