  4. On the eve of the 2013 Summer Universiade in Kazan city a new Marriage Registration Palace named Family Centre “Kazan” opened its doors

  5. The building was constructed for one year and a half.

  6. Originally it was planned to be the media center for journalists accredited for the Universiade, and only after the games it was meant to become the Marriage Registration Palace.

  7. The building was constructed on the right bank of the Kazanka River

  8. It was designed by a famous artist and sculptor Dashi Namdakov.

  9. Zilant is a legendary creature, something between a dragon and a wyvern. Since 1730, it has been the official symbol of Kazan. This winged snake is mentioned in legends about the foundation of Kazan.

  10. Zilant could be seen at the decorative elements all over Kazan Zilant sculpture near the Kazan Kremlin

  11. The name Kazan, however, means “kettle” or “pot” and is also memorialized in the Millennium park fountain

  12. Zilant- the official symbol of Kazan around the fountain in the form of a boiling cauldron, symbolizing an ancient legend about the origin of the name of the city of Kazan in the middle of the Park of the 1000th anniversary of Kazan

  13. Zilant- the official symbol of Kazan by Dashi Namdakov (He and She)

  14. New Marriage Registration Palace designed by DashiNamdakov opened in Kazan

  15. Total area of the building makes 6200 m². The form of the palace symbolizes a Tatar boiler – Kazan, which is decorated by the metal bas-relief with winged leopards.

  16. The building is crowned by the viewing platforms totaling 1.2 thousand square meters

  17. The highlight of the complex is a 32 meter-high viewing platform, which offers a breathtaking view of the river and of the ancient and modern Kazan Kremlin.

  18. Kazan is the capital and largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. With a population of 1,143,535, it is the eighth most populous city in Russia. Kazan lies at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka Rivers in European Russia.

  19. There is a new garden square and a waterfront near the palace now

  20. The Kazan Kremlin is a World Heritage Site. In April 2009, the Russian Patent Office granted Kazan the right to brand itself as the "Third Capital" of Russia. In 2009 it was chosen as the "Sports capital of Russia” and it still is referred to as such. The city hosted the 2013 Summer Universiade and will host the 2014 World Fencing Championships, 2015 World Aquatics Championships, and 2018 FIFA World Cup.

  21. The origin of the name Kazan is uncertain. The most accepted legends derive it from the Bulgar (and also modern Tatar) word qazan, which means 'boiler' or 'cauldron'. One legend claims that the city was named after the river Kazanka, which was named after the son of a Bulgar governor dropped a copper cauldron into it. Other local legends claim that the city was named for the resemblance of the hill on which it sits to an upturned cauldron.

  22. The building represents a huge cauldron over a blazing hearth in which city life is bustling. Up to 100 ceremonies can be held in the palace every day. There are bride and groom rooms, wedding reception halls, and a sightseeing platform.

  23. In its interior, "Kazan" reflects the thousand-year long history of the city. The lounge on the lower level symbolizes the era of the Great Volga Bulgaria.

  24. Above, the interiors are decorated with pointed arches, typical of Kazan Khanate.

  25. Still higher, the interiors are decorated in the classical style. On the top floor, there is an observation deck with a total area of more than 1.2 thousand square meters. It offers a panoramic view of the Kazanka River, the Kremlin and the modern part of the city.
