The Hakone Open-Air Museum opened in 1969 as the first open-air art museum in Japan, founded by Nobutaka Shikanai, retired president of Japan's largest communications conglomerate, the Fujisankei Group. The Museum is located in grand nature of Hakone that was once called one of the most rugged paths in Japan. The garden with a view of the mountains of Hakone and changing four seasons provides an ideal outdoor setting to show oversized sculptures. In the garden the museum's collections include about 100 masterpieces of Rodin, Bourdelle, Miro, Henry Moore (26) and others
