Madeira, officially the Autonomous Region of Madeira is one of two autonomous regions of Portugal. It is an archipelago situated in the North Atlantic Ocean, in a region known as Macaronesia, just 520 kilometres west of the Kingdom of Morocco.

  1. A very special place is the Rua de Santa Maria with the adjacent streets. Artists have brought the once run-down and half-ruined district back to life with a creative and colorful project: the “ProjectoartEpORtasabErtas” which means “Open Door Project”. The artists started in with the first door in April 2011 and after that almost every doorstep in the street(s) was embellished in creative and very different ways.

  2. There are now over 200 painted doors, new ones are added every now and then and the collection is growing and expanding to the surrounding courners.

  3. Old Town Funchal´s “Arte de Portas Abertas” is a public art program that aims in transforming Funchal´s old town into a permanent outdoor art gallery
