Master of Art in Developmental Psychology Human development is essential to the development of the country. The Master’s Program in Developmental Psychology (Evening program) is offered to provide students with the knowledge and skills that can be directly applied to their work; whether they are teachers, developmental specialists, educators, lawyers, medical staffs, or other personnel both in public and private sectors. The graduates will be able to apply the knowledge to effectively develop human resources which are the key to the country’s development.
Program Objectives • To produce creative and highly-skilled graduates who can generate new knowledge that helps advance the field of human development • To produce graduates who are capable of conducting research or having hand-on experience in stimulating child development or in modifying children’s behavior to maximize human development • To produce graduates who will provide the knowledge or teach developmental psychology to the community to improve people’s quality of life • To equip graduates with the skills and knowledge that can be applied to their work and life
About the Program The program is based on the credit hour system. The academic year is divided into 2 semesters – the first and the second – and a Summer session (if any). Each semester lasts no shorter than 15 weeks. A Summer session lasts 6-8 weeks. There are two plans that the program can be completed: • Plan A (Thesis) - designed to prepare highly-skilled academics who are trained to use the knowledge in developmental psychology to generate new knowledge. Plan A focuses on research; hence, a thesis is required for its completion. 8-10 students are accepted into this plan of study annually. Totally, the program lasts 2- 2.5 years. • Plan B (Non-Thesis) 2.1. Plan B (General) – Students engage in research projects in general human development. 30-40 students are accepted into this plan of study annually. Totally, the program lasts 2 years. 2.2. Plan B (with Internship) – Students are given assignments that involve child development enhancement/intervention or behavior modification. 5-10 students are accepted into this plan of study annually. Totally, the program lasts 2- 2.5 years. These assignments are to be completed during office hours.
