7. Safety Education – Firework safety Every year 10 people lose their sight and more than 300 people suffer serious bonfire night eye injuries! Its not just children at risk - they only account for approximately half of the injuries! Adults, particularly young adults are also at risk! Last year 533 children ended their bonfire night celebrations with a visit to their local A&E department! Over 82 of those children were under five years old - suffering preventable injuries such as burnt hands and feet, eye injuries and even torso burns - so please follow the sensible guidance and be safe!
8. Firework safety continued For those of you considering arranging a bonfire night on your premises or using fireworks or sparklers, you are advised to utilise the risk assessment template forms below, which will provide much necessary guidance, direction and appropriate supporting documentation (if required) to assist in ensuring that risks are reduced and your firework/bonfire night is a safe and fun night for all.

In Hampshire, schools are expected to work with Local Children’s Partnerships to support the HCYPP, so HS work is crucial in supporting healthy behaviours which then impact on achievement.

24. The Intercultural Centre has a new name, new premises and a new phone number! The Intercultural Resource Centre in Southampton has recently moved and, at the same time, has got a new name - the Rights and Diversity Education Centre. For more information and new contact details please see the information below, which has recently been sent to schools.
The Rights and Diversity Education Centre (RADE) is located in Eastleigh (details below). This new name reflects the Centre’s commitment to providing resource enrichment and curriculum advice across the Equalities and Rights of the Child agenda.
25. RADE will be a prime source of support for Hampshire teachers who are keen to develop work in RRR (including gender and disability), race equality, cultural diversity and the global dimension. We will seek to take a lead in tackling difficult issues, while being reactive to a changing educational environment. We know that avoiding discrimination , promoting equality and rights of the child improves levels of attainment and participation for all pupils.
We will maintain our popular resource loans and advice system - free access to the RADE collections and related advice, is available through subscription. We work with existing service providers such as the Ethnic Minority and Traveller Achievement Service, and the Rights, Respect and Responsibilities programme in providing training and new materials. Look out for the first RADE newsletter which will be in Primary schools later this Autumn Term.
