Status • Repaired MH2 and Q10 power supplies • Seems to have stabilized beam • MiniBooNE had the highest rate in quite a while. • Elliott McCrory added linac time of flight feedback loop • Stabilized beam very well for two weeks • Then put linac into a strange state, which resulted in some unstable behavior two days ago • Elliott is investigating. In the mean time, it just means that Elliott or Larry Allen will have to check things every few days. • Having some problem with coalescing tuning resulting in high losses on MiniBooNE and stacking cycles • Totally don’t understand this problem yet. Looking into it with Jim Lackey and Dave Capista Prebys
Shutdown Project Status • Collimators • Slight delay in delivery of major components because of Dichronite step – should arrive by beginning of next week • Trying to get technician help to assemble. • RF cavities • We were able to achieve our (37-53 MHz) tuning range with a combination of Linac and Main Injector tuners!!! • Completing assembly and proceeding with power tests • Dogleg modification • Design completed • Argonne has agreed to fabricate • Estimate from their shop: 10 weeks, $42K (OUCH!!) • Estimate from Hi-Tech: 4.5 weeks, $17K -> Argonne will pay. • Everything else • On schedule Prebys
Shutdown Schedule • Start date: • “Unofficially” delayed two weeks (Aug. 25th->Sept. 8th) • Final decision at today’s Run II PMG • We’re OK either way • Length: • “As long as it takes for the recycler vacuum and civil engineering work” • This is probably 10 weeks. • Booster work is 5 weeks. • Considering waiting a full week to start work to let things cool. • MiniBooNE will probably run nights and weekends once we’re up (after a tuning period).
