  1. Viral Gastroenteritis What that it is ? • An inflammation of the stomach and intestines • commonly found during cooler months of the year. • Norwalk virus and rotavirus

  2. Symptoms • Diarrhea • Vomiting • headache • fever • abdominal cramps • Symptoms begin 1 ~ 2 days following infection with a virus • It may last for 1~10 days!!!!!!! >.<

  3. Mode of transmission • Viral gastroenteritis is contagious. • People in any age group may be infected !!!! • Easy to occur and spread in institutional setting : It can be transmitted via bythe following means: • By food or water contaminated with the viruses • By contact with vomit or faeces from infected persons • By contact with contaminated objects • By aerosol spread

  4. Treatment • both children and adult is to prevent severe loss of fluids (dehydration). • Medications, including antibiotics (no effect on viruses) and other treatments, should be avoided unless specifically recommended by a physician. • Most people will not be seriously ill. But usually recover completely without any long-term problems.

  5. Preventive measures • Wear gloves while cleaning up vomitus and faeces • Clean and disinfect contaminated areas and items promptly and thoroughly with a diluted household bleach in the ratio of 1:49; • Sick students should rest at home and not attend class; • Maintain good indoor ventilation; • Eat only thoroughly cooked food/clean sushi • Wash hands thoroughly before handling food and eating, and after going to toilets and handling vomitus or faecal matter
