  3. Q&A 1. What if my child signed up for band and no longer wants to participate in band? Please let Mr. Shepard know immediately. 2. What will my child need for the first day of school in band class? A pencil and a hard surface to use for completing music worksheets such as a 3 ring binder used in another class, spiral note book used in another class, composition book used in another class, or a clipboard.   4. Q&A page 2 3. When will my child need an instrument? Students will learn about and try all the band instruments during the first 3 weeks of school. I will guide them in selecting an instrument that they will enjoy and have great success playing.I will contact you to let you know the instrument and you can order your instrument online with our rental company. I will send home details of how to order your child’s instrument. 4. What else will my child need for band? A. After selecting the instrument you will need to purchase the Tradition of Excellence Book 1 from me for $11.00 (please make checks payable to YMS). Daily Agenda

  5. Q&A page 3 B. A cleaning kit is recommended. You can purchase the kit form Music Time (904-696-9882) over the phone with a credit card and they will deliver the kit to me to give to your child. I will teach your child how to care and clean their instrument. Music Time (904-696-9882) is our local music store. They will take care of any needed instrument repairs. C. You can purchase a music stand for your child to use at home form Music Time (904-696-9882). However, it is optional. Daily Agenda

  6. Q&A page 4 D. An instrument case tag form Music Time (904-696-9882) is recommended. It is also optional. E. You will need to purchase the black Hornet Polo from me. They are $15.00. Please make checks payable to YMS. Your child will wear the Polo for performances. Please purchase a pair of black pants. Dress pants or school uniform pants are recommended. Black flats for girls and black lace up shoes for boys. Please purchase these on your own. Daily Agenda

  8. Grading Standards Grading Standards will be sent home 25% Class Participation 25% Weekly Playing Test 25% Weekly Practice Report 25% Performances Daily Agenda

  9. Grading Standards 25% Class Participation Students need to bring their instrument, band book, and music daily to school and back home daily. 25% Weekly Playing Test Students will play the song everyday for 2 weeks before the test Daily Agenda

  10. Grading Standards 25% Weekly Practice Report 10-15 minutes each day Each Thursday parents must sign their child’s practice report. Students hand in the practice report each Friday for full credit. They may hand it in on Monday for 5 points off. After that the students will receive a zero. Daily Agenda

Band Parent Volunteer Form Please complete the Band Parent Volunteer Form if you would like to volunteer for any of the events listed on ymsband.com or if you would like to be a chaperone for the YMS band end of the year trip Please send me an email or text through Remind if you want to volunteer for a particular job found on the ymsband.com Daily Agenda

Fair Share $50.00 per band student Used to fund the band program – music, music stands, music supplies, etc. A YMS Band Car Wash is provided for your child to raise the $50.00 by selling 10 car wash tickets at $5.00 per ticket. Parents can choose to pay the $50.00 out of pocket by Cash or check made payable to YMS. The date of the car wash has yet to be determined. Daily Agenda

  18. YMS End of the Year Band Trip Saturday, April 27th Valdosta Band Competition Wild Adventures $150.00 per student – fundraisers provided found at ymsband.com $150.00 covers the competition fee, charter bus, and admission into Wild Adventures Daily Agenda

  19. Typical Day in Band Bring your instrument and band book to the band room as soon as you arrive at YMS. During band class students will complete daily written work and perform on their instruments. Retrieve your instrument from the band room after 6th period each day before leaving YMS. Daily Agenda
