  2. The Points You Need To Know • Point 1 – No More Secret Agreements • Point 4 – Disarmament • Point 8 – France regains Alsace-Lorraine • Point 14 – The League of Nations will be created to guarantee the independence of all states

  3. What is the League of Nations • Organization based in Switzerland (Neutral- did not fight in WWI) • Protected the peace • Could do three things • Call nations to sit down and discuss problems in an orderly peaceful manor • Warn aggressive nations to back down • Impose economic sanctions on aggressor nations

  4. Denied • Germany was denied access to the League of Nations • Treaty of Versailles • Russia was denied access to the League of Nations • Murdered the royal family in the Russian Revolution • Communist government was feared by the western powers of Europe and therefore isolated

  5. Your job for the next 10 minutes • Germany was the main aggressor in WWI and they need to be punished as a nation. • Come up with 3 different sanctions to punish the German nation for their aggressiveness and actions that caused WWI.

  6. The Big Three • Britain – David Lloyd George • Germany needed to be punished but left as a buffer zone between U.K. and Communist Russia • France – Clemenceau • Germany is at fault and should be brought to it’s knees • Previous wars had caused hatred between France and Germany • U.S. – Woodrow Wilson • Long-term peace should be a priority and everyone was to blame

Treaty of Versailles • The Major Points • Germany had to admit full responsibility for the war • Clause 231- “War Guilt Cause” • Germany had to pay War Reparations • Germany would pay other European Countries money for the damage they caused • Territorial losses • Germany would loose many territories

  8. War Reparations • Germany was forced to sign a blank check • After the War their economy was in bad shape • Country destroyed • War Reparations brought Germany to it’s knees and but the country in a major state of depression
