LEARN, a non-profit collaboration of Texas higher education institutions, presents the next-generation network at the EDUCAUSE Southwest Regional Conference. The presentation discusses the history of network development, the role of dark fiber and DWDM technology, the Grid, and the unprecedented collaboration in Texas. It also highlights the connection to the supercollider project and the future of high-performance computing and networking.

LEARN Mission • LEARN is a non-profit collaboration of Texas higher education institutions that supports their research, education, health care, and public service missions through the innovative development, operation and utilization of advanced statewide networking, access to global resources, and related services.

The grant is one of three given by the NSF to create giant computer clusters which form an international grid connected to a new supercollider built by a consortium of 34 nations in Geneva, Switzerland. UT-Arlington Professor of Physics Kaushik De said adding the computing grid network to the supercollider will enable physicists to take the next important step in the evolution of the Internet and World Wide Web computing.
