The punishment of such crimes may include imprisonment for several years or whole life and it may also include a death sentence. Offenses like murder, kidnapping, assault, rape, forgery, etc, come under felonious crime. The consequences of a felony charge may lead to loss of property, residence, job, license for driving, etc.<br>

  3. Definition of Felony Depending on the seriousness of the crime, the government of the United States has divided the crimes into many categories. Among them, the major ones are infraction, misdemeanor, and felony. In the three categories infraction is the least serious crime, then misdemeanor, and at last the felony that are the most serious crimes. Felony is a class of crime that tends to be the most serious offense and if a person is convicted of a felonious crime then he/she may be imprisoned for more than 12 months, in some states of the United States the punishment of a felonious crime is very harsh. Felons are the people convicted of a felony. In some of the states, the felonious crimes are classified into Class A, B, C, and so on while the other states classify the crimes into Levels 1, 2, 3, so on. Classification of the felonious crimes are done so that the convicted are punished according to the class or level their punishment lies in. Every state had classified different crimes into different classes as each state had its penal code. Some states deny the classification system for felonious crime and give punishment according to the seriousness of the crime.

  4. Examples of Felony Murder: It is an act of killing someone unlawfully. A person convicted of such a crime is often punished with life imprisonment or a death sentence or a few years of imprisonment depending on the state’s jurisdiction. - First-degree murder is the intentional, planned, and unlawful killing of someone. It is the case that mostly involves the punishment of death or life imprisonment. - Second-degree murder is the unplanned murder that may occur from an associated with any crime like robbery. This case of murder may involve punishment for several years. Assault: It is the crime that involves an action in which one tends to harm someone physically.

  5. Domestic Violence: Violence committed at home comes under this category, it may be victimization, domination, or intimidation of one partner over another. Emotional abuse, sexual abuse, and even physical aggression come under this category. It is not only limited to partners, it applies to any relationship. Rape or Sexual Assault: It is the crime that sexual intercourse without the person’s consent. The severity of the punishment may rise from a few years to life imprisonment depending on the age of the victim and if any intoxicants were used. Sale and consumption of illegal drugs: If a person is found to sell drugs illegally then it’s considered to be a felonious crime and also if it’s found that the person has consumed a large portion of drugs then he/she may be convicted for drug trafficking on the basis that the intention was to sell the drugs.

Arson: It is the crime that involves intentionally setting up fire to any property that may include a building, motor vehicle, forest, watercraft, etc. Larceny: It is the crime involving intentional or unlawful taking away someone’s property. Kidnapping: It is the unlawful activity that may involve the asportation or confinement of a person against their will. Forgery: Forgery is referred to as a crime that involves the false making of a legal instrument or using the wrong product with an intent to do fraud. Other examples of a felony may include tax evasion, computer crime-fraud, copyright infringement, blackmail, threatening an official, blackmail, etc.

Consequences of Felony Charges The charges of a felony may have the following consequences: - Cancellation of driver’s license - The convicted may not be eligible for government job - Convicted may not then have the right to vote - Loss of ability to have firearms.
