English Aim Higher Booker of Bookers Presentation
What do I have to do? • Choose one of the previous Booker Prize winners or any of the short listed novels to read • If you fancy one of the Whitbread Book of the Year or Orange Prize winners/short listed books you can choose one of these • Prepare and deliver a 10 minute presentation to the rest of the group promoting your book and recommending it to be “The Booker of Bookers”
How do I have to present it? • Really it`s up to you! • You could use Powerpoint • You could select an extract to give to the group and use this as the focus for your promotion • You could create a short handout • Use your imagination!
What did last year`s group choose? • Possession by AS Byatt (2 students) • The Blind Assassin by Margaret Atwood • The God of Small Things by Arundati Roy • Sacred Hunger by Barry Unsworth • The Ghost Road by Pat Barker • The Life of Pi by Yann Martel • The Restraint of Beasts by Magnus Mills
What presentation methods did they use? • Powerpoint • Handouts • Using an extract as a focus for presentation and discussion • Using an extract from the film version • Talking! • Inviting questions from the floor
Anything else required? • Yes!! • A brief piece of writing to promote the book taking a focus chosen by you • No more than one side of A4 paper typed • Suitable for using on a future Intranet page • Examples of last year`s students` writing is to be put on the Intranet very soon
So…. • Choose your book! • Many Booker winners and shortlisted books in the LRC • Ask Corrine or Julie about others • Ask Lorraine or Philippa for advice if you can`t choose • Try to link your choice in with a theme or focus for your wider reading
