Goals for a Book Club for nurse leaders • Leadership styles will be enlightened and enriched by reading books beyond clinical or social literature • Life long learning will be promoted and professional development stimulated for nurse leaders • Knowledge about leadership, management, supervision, and school health program development will be expanded through reading and discussion

  4. Why a book club? • Foster collegiality among nurse leaders • Increase critical thinking about school health leadership and management issues • Promote professional development • Support reflection about needs for personal goal- directed growth • Foster enjoyment appreciation of literature

  5. Positive Outcomes • Expansion of knowledge about personal leadership style and skills • Facilitation of various leadership and learning styles • Enhancement of ability to be self directed in learning • Empowerment of nurses as leaders, advocates, and administrators

  6. Suggested Implementation • Nurse leaders review a selection of Titles of books and choose one for the group to read • Goal 3- 4 books per year or one per regional meeting • Topics for books may include • Leadership, administration, supervision • Conflict resolution • Time management • Effective communication • Implementing change • Other school nurse leadership issues

  7. Book Discussion • At regional ESHS meetings after/during lunch • Respond to discussion questions about lessons learned • Reflection on personal style or practice • Plans for implementation of new knowledge or skills • Implications for school nurse leadership
