  2. Fragments and Run-ons Two things you want to avoid are writing sentence Fragments and Run-ons. Usually, a clear understanding of Clauses often avoids problems. This lesson will help you write complete sentences using proper structure and punctuation. Enjoy! Fragments Sentence fragments do not express a complete thought. They have something missing such as a subject or a verb (or both). Examples: Found the earring in the sink. After the band finished playing at midnight. The star that shone so brightly that I couldn’t even see the road. Run-on’s Run-on’s involve joining clauses improperly without using proper punctuation. Examples:The earring was found in the sink Hannah was relieved! The band played until midnight they were exhausted!

  3. Avoid writing sentence Fragments and Run-ons by reading sentences carefully to ensure that each sentence expresses a complete thought and that sentences or clauses are joined properly. Look at the examples! Simple Corrections Fragment Incorrect: After we get married and return from the honeymoon. Correct: After we get married and return from the honeymoon, we are going to meet with the architect. or We are going to meet with the architect after we get married and return from the honeymoon. Run-on Incorrect: The tickets have been purchased the plans are complete. Correct:The tickets have been purchased ; the plans are complete. or The tickets have been purchased, and the plans are complete. or The tickets have been purchased; therefore, the plans are complete.
