What is Legion of Mary? • The Legion of Mary is the largest apostolic organization of lay people in the Catholic Church all over the world. • The main purpose of the Legion of Mary is to give glory to God through the sanctification of its members.
History of LOM • The Legion of Mary was founded in Dublin, Ireland on 7 September 1921 by Frank Duff. • Frank Duff dedicated his life to guiding the extension of the movement throughout the world. He died on Nov 7, 1980. He may now be referred to as 'The Servant of God'.
Legion of Mary activities • Each legionary is required to meet once a week for prayer, planning and discussion in a family setting. Then they do two hours of definite work each week in pairs and under the guidance of their spiritual director.
Legion of Mary activities • Examples of works that can be done: • Visitation of the homes of people, of the sick, or of those in need • Promoting spirititual activities, such as retreats, recitation of rosary, etc • Promotion of Catholic Associations and Parish Societies • Dissemination of Catholic Literature • And other activities according to the needs of the church
The misconceptions • Legion of Mary is not a rosary group • Legion of Mary is not made up mostly of old people. It also has youth members that are very active in legionary works, and NTU LOM is one of the example.
NTU Legion of Mary • There are three praesidiums (unit of Legion of Mary) in NTU: • Maria Dolce, • Maria Sperante, • and Maria Gratia • We work closely with the NTU Catholic Students' Apostolate, the Catholic youth organization in NTU.
NTU Legion of Mary • Activities of NTU LOM: • Weekly meetings • Visitation to Red Cross house for the disabled and St. Joseph house for the old folks • Visitation to the students during the exam period • Organizing Taize and Retreat Sessions • Book barrows • And assisting the NTU Catholic Students' Apostolate in organizing many other activities
