Used to be known as perversions; a.k.a. sexual deviation “Recurrent, intense sexual urges, fantasies, or behaviors that involve unusual objects, activities, or situations and cause clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational or other important areas of functioning.” (Source 1: PDM) Paraphilias

  3. The recurrent urge or behavior to expose one’s genitals to an unsuspecting person. (Source 6) This act is usually performed by a lonely, insecure male. They seek sexual excitement through this. There is no sexual contact involved. Exhibitionism

  4. The use of non-sexual or nonliving objects or part of a person’s body to gain sexual excitement. (Source 6) Examples of fetishes: Body parts (Animate fetish) Piercings Fabric/Material/Clothing (Media fetish) Fetishism

  5. The recurrent urges or behavior of touching or rubbing against a non-consenting person. (Source 6) The “frotteur” fantasizes about having an intimate relationship with the victim. Makes a quick escape, because they realize that their actions are illegal. Frotteurism

  6. The recurrent urge or behavior of wanting to be humiliated, beaten, bound, or otherwise made to suffer. (Source 6) This includes use of: Physical restraints with punishment, pain, humiliation, and degradation Role playing (teacher/student; master/slave) Masochism

  7. The recurrent urge or behavior involving acts in which the pain or humiliation of the victim is sexually exciting (Source 6) Starts as obsessive thoughts and fantasies, but then it increases in severity over time. Centers around domination and control. Usually goes with masochism. Sadism

  8. The recurrent urge or behavior to observe an unsuspecting person who is naked, disrobing or engaging in sexual activities, or may not be sexual in nature at all. The observer has no intention of having contact with the “victim” at all. May seek sexual satisfaction through masturbation. Voyeurism

  9. Chronophilias: infantophilia, pedophilia, and gerontophilia. Others: telephone scatalogia, necrophilia, partualism, zoophilia, coprophilia, klismaphilia, and urophilia *Homosexuality use to be listed as a paraphilia until the attitude about it among psychiatrists and psychologists changed.* More Paraphilias

  10. Symptoms: Increased sexual urges Inappropriate sexual behavior Causes: Not quite sure but they believe it might have to do with psychological, biological, and environmental aspects. Treatments: Psychotherapy/ Group Therapy 12 Step Program Medications Social Skills Training Symptoms/Causes/Treatments
