  3. Test Tube & Test Tube Rack • Glass Tubes • Holds small amounts of liquid • Test Tube Rack = “Storage”

  4. Test tube tongs / holder / grippers

  5. Graduated Cylinder • Glass or plastic • Varies in size (small to large) • Precise amount of liquid • Graduations = “measurement lines” that increase from bottom to top

  6. Safety goggles / goggles • Protects your eyes from chemicals/hazardous substances

  7. Funnel • Precise pour from larger container to smaller container

  8. Bunsen Burner • Heating/melting substances

  9. Dropper Picks up small amounts of liquid Release liquid one-drop at a time

  10. Thermometer • Glass • Measures how hot/cold a liquid is • Contains the element mercury = poisonous!!! • Not for use on your body!

  11. Triple-beam Balance • Very fragile • Always hold with TWO hands • Determines the mass of an object • Ever stepped on a scale at the doctor’s office?? • Mass is similar but not the same as weight

  12. Microscope VERY fragile! Always hold with TWO hands Observe very small objects/organisms

  13. Microscope Slides & Coverslips • Slide = Glass • Coverslip = Plastic • Holds specimen in place under microscope • No creepy crawlers!

  14. Now……what you’ve been waiting for……. Dissections!!!!!

  15. Dissecting tray • Size of binder paper • Keep specimen in here while dissecting • May/may not have rubber on the bottom

  16. Dissecting tools • Scissors – Cut open specimen • Probe – Pointing or holding open parts of specimen • Forceps – Holding open specimen or holding to eyelevel for observation
