What is a Tag Question? • ATag Questionis a small question added to the end of a statement. Statement + Tag question • Tag Questions are use for two reasons: • To check for correctness • To check for agreement When do use a Tag Question?
Checking for Correctness. • Sometimes when we make a statement we want to know if we are right or wrong. • Here we can use a tag question. 맞아?
Examples • Mr. Lee is our teacher. (I know this is true). • Mr. Lee is our teacher, isn’t he? (I think he’s our teacher, I’m not sure) • Mary runs every day. (I know this) • Mary runs every day, doesn’t she? (I think she runs everyday, but I don’t know exactly) Tag Question Tag Question
Checking for Agreement. • Sometimes when we make a statement we want to know if you agree (동의하다) or disagree (동의하지 않는다). • Here we can also use a tag question. He’s cute, isn’t he?
Examples • This class is too hard, isn’t it? • (I think the class is difficult and I want to know if you think the same) • The weather wasn’t nice yesterday, was it? • (I think that the weather was bad yesterday and I think you will agree with me)

Exceptions Some tag questions are made differently (they are irregular): • I amcute, • I’mright, aren’t I? • I’mlucky, aren’t I? • Nobodycamehere, (Nobody is NEGATIVE subject, so the tag is POSITIVE). • No one was hurt, werethey? • Everyone likes pizza, • Everyone refers to many people as a single group. • So it uses a singular verb.
