Aristotelian Logic • An argument consists of one or more premises and one conclusion. • A premise is a statement that is offered in support of the claim being made. • A conclusion is a statement that is the logical consequence of one or more premises. • For an argument to be valid its premises must support its conclusion. For anargument to be sound it must be valid and all premises must be true
Syllogism = form of deductive reasoning where conclusion is drawn from 2 premises. All men are mortal, major premise Socrates is a man. minor premise Therefore Socrates is mortal. conclusion
