  2. Instructions • Welcome to The Game of Life Balance. As we go about our busy lives, we all have different experiences – some good, some not so good. How do we approach them? How do we learn from them? This game simulates a year in a person’s life as we engage with others, try to succeed, sometimes fail, but always learn. • This game is intended as an ice breaker or teambuilding exercise. • The objective is not to earn the most money, but to discuss the options available in our pursuit to balance our lives. This is accomplished by players sharing their experiences with the situations that are addressed by the problem cards. • 2 – 4 players • 18+ to play • One die • Tokens for each player • One player will be the designated banker. • Each player will be given $1000 monthly salary to start off; $1000 more each time the player passes GO. • Each player will roll a die to see who goes first. Play will rotate clockwise. • Chance – draw the top card and read the instructions aloud. Follow the directions. When completed, replace the card on the bottom of the deck. • Problem – draw the top card and read the instructions aloud. Follow the directions. When completed, replace the card on the bottom of the deck. • Players designate a time limit for the length of play, i.e. 15 minutes, 30 minutes, etc. • Place $100 in the Raise designated area and maintain this level. • Place $50 in the Bonus designated area and it will be replenished as play proceeds • Bonus space will maintain $200 • Raise space will maintain $100

  3. CHANCE Instructions • Medical premiums have gone up by $100 per month. Pay the bank $100 and move your token to the medical space. • Move to the Deadline space. Congratulations! You’ve met your deadline on an important project! Move ahead 4 spaces. You deserve some R&R for your hard work. • Unexpected Tax Refund. Move to the Tax Refund space. Collect your $200. • Unexpected Tax Payment for rental property. Move to the Tax Payment space. Place $100 in the Bonus area. • You're boss just awarded you a $200 bonus for volunteering to complete a big project for another business unit.  Move your piece to the bonus space! • Your child just received a partial scholarship to a local school. Move to the Cap & Gown space. Receive $100 from the bank. • Your water pipe broke last night and the plumber won’t be able to make it until this afternoon at 2:00 pm. Go to the House space. Pay the bank $50. • Wow! You received 4 tickets to your city’s major league ball game tonight. Move to the baseball space. Roll again! • Severe weather watch in town. You must leave work early to get groceries (milk, bottled water, and canned items) from the store. Pay the bank $100 and move to the grocery space. • You have an unexpected birthday party to attend. You must purchase a gift. Pay the bank $50 and move to the birthday space.

  4. PROBLEM Instructions • You were involved in a minor fender bender on your way to work today. Please discuss your reaction to this and how you would handle it with the other players. Then move your token to the space with the tow truck. • You lead a team of 4. Each one handles a different area but all are cross-trained on the essential functions of the other positions. One teammate has to be out for surgery and the recovery time is 2 months. How would you approach your team to handle this? Please discuss. Then move your token to the space with the medical symbol. • Unexpected guests are coming in tonight and you haven’t gone grocery shopping all week. Discuss how you would handle this situation. Then move your token to the space with the grocery cart. • You've planned a vacation for months and are now days away, but your company has asked you to go on a business trip tomorrow that may cause you to be late for your vacation or at least put added stress on your plans. • You travel for work and are out of town during the week and your spouse/partner works full time, so you find it very difficult to keep your house/life in order. • You only have one car and need to commute together with your spouse/partner, but you're schedules do not necessarily match.

  5. PROBLEM Instructions 7. You are taking your children to school and your car stops on you. What do you do? After receiving feedback from others, move your token to the tow tuck space. 8. Tonight's your son's birthday party, but it's 5:00 and your boss just gave you a report that has to be complete for a 9:00 am meeting tomorrow morning.  How do you handle the situation? Move your piece to the party space. 9.  You've been offered an awesome assignment that will greatly benefit your career, but will also mean long hours of work (that you'll enjoy doing) and significant time away from your family for the foreseeable future.  What are all the considerations you go through? 10.  You've got a medical problem that will require you to be out of the office periodically over the next six months.  How do you address this issue with your boss and make sure the job continues to get done while you're getting better? 11 - 22 Blank. Player must come up with their own senerio.
