Vocabulary • ACT – standardized college admissions exam that tests students in English, math, reading and science • SAT – standardized college admission exam that tests students’ abilities in math, critical reading and writing (traditionally taken in the spring of a student’s junior year in high school) • Extracurricular activities – any club, team, event, or organized activity that a student participates in outside of his/her academic coursework • Admission counselor – college/university employee responsible for making decisions about which student applications will be admitted to their school • Auditory learner – a person who learns best by hearing information (rather than seeing or doing) • Tactile learner – a person who learns best by doing • Visual learner – a person who learns best by seeing

  3. Journal • Open to page 27 in your book and take 5-10 minutes to answer the questions • Be prepared to share with a neighbor

  4. Review of lesson 2 • Turn to page 25 • This will be the career that you research during the next few lessons, so make sure it is the one you really want to study

  5. YOU are the admissions counselor! • Turn to page 28 • Take 5-10 minutes to pretend you are an admissions counselor and answer the questions

  6. High school course requirements for postsecondary education& College entrance exams • Review the inside back cover of your book (for HS graduation requirements) – 5 minutes • Answer the questions on page 29 of your book – 5 minutes

  7. Middle school: Your first step towards reaching your goals • Read page 30 – you have 3-5 minutes

  8. Learning styles inventory • Complete the Learning Styles Inventory on page 31 (5 minutes) • Tally your check marks and read about your learning style on pages 32-34 (10 minutes)

  9. Journal • Turn to page 35 and answer the questions • Be prepared to share something you learned or found interesting with a partner
