Question • Can salt melt ice faster than the sun?
Purpose The purpose of my investigation is to determine if salt canmelt ice better thanthe sun itself.
Hypothesis I hypothesize that sunlight melts ice better than salt. I believe this because I used my schema to know that the sun probably will melt it better because the suns rays have warmth.
Materials • Two paper plates • Ten ice cubes • Timer/Stopwatch • Marker • Tape/masking tape • Sunlight • Grams of salt
Variables • Manipulated: Sun or salt • Responding: melting time • Constants: paper plates, ice from local store, amount of salt used
Directions • Gather materials • Place one ice cube on the paper plate labeled SUN • Place one cube on the plate labeled SALT • Sprinkle grams of salt on the ice cube on the SALT plate • Start timer • Record melting time for each cube • Repeat steps 1 through 6 for four more trials
Conclusion • MY HYPOTHSISE WAS INCORRECT. SALT CAN MELT ICE FASTER.
