Sports Industry Public Voluntary Private This presentation will tell you the aims of each sector of sports industry, what each sector provides and the advantages and disadvantages of each sector
How the sectors are provided Voluntary • Its coaches and administrators etc are all voluntary • It’s funded through government grants, membership fees, lottery funding, fundraising events. Private • The private sector is paid for by its members membership/ subscription Public • Any services provided from taxation, this can come from lottery funding sport England or council tax etc
Private sector • The private sector provides facilities for commercial and business use. It acts as an area of employment and has economic gain • Private enterprises provide facilities such as squash & tennis courts, fitness & conditioning suites, children's play facilities, golf clubs/ courses and health and spa facilities.
Voluntary sector of sports industry Includes all sports, teams and clubs where the competitors, administrators coaches etc give up their time for free or pay to play. It provides: • sports teams and clubs • local fitness groups • countryside activities
Public sector of sports industry • Its main aim is to provide facilities for the whole community • Local authorities have the responsibility of building and maintaining the physical recreation and sport facilities for the community
Swimming pools, sport pitches, parks, adventure playgrounds, sports halls and nature trails are among some of the facilities provided by the public sector of sports industry • The public sector will sometimes subsidise certain user groups. These will be groups like under 16s, single mums and the disabled
How to improve the public sector for best value • Get the private sector to help run this sector of business • Best value is a government regime aiming to improve the quality of local facilities. The main aim is for continuous improvements to be made. • When councils are inspected the have two apply the 4 Cs -Challenge: what the council is doing compared with the best council - Consult: they have to contact the public and assess customer satisfaction - Compare: councils have to compare themselves with the services provided others and show how they are doing against the national best value indicators -Compete: Councils have to show their services are the best way of managing their leisure and recreation
