The QEP • SACS Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) • QEP is an essential requirement of the reaffirmation of accreditation process • “Course of action for institutional improvement crucial to enhancing educational quality that is directly related to student learning” • Broad-based, university wide 10 year plan tied to the institution’s mission
The QEP • The QEP is a plan In 2007: • The written plan is submitted to the SACS On-Site Review team 6 weeks prior to its visit (Feb 8) • On-Site visitors review SACS information and the QEP (Mar 27-29) • Official Reaffirmation is at the SACS Annual Meeting (Dec 8)
Background Development of the MUSC QEP • National recommendations call for increased emphasis on interprofessional training in health professions education • MUSC has a history of disparate interprofessional educational activities: • Presidential Scholars Program, SCRIPT, Interprofessional Education Day 2006 & 2007, CLARION competition, C.A.R.E.S. Clinic, etc.
MUSC QEP – Creating Collaborative Care (C3) Creating Collaborative Care is a plan to promote an institutional culture, learning environment, and infrastructure that enhances MUSC graduates’ abilities to participate as effective team members in interprofessional cooperative health care delivery or research.
C3 Goals • acquire a set of defined teamwork competencies • acquire knowledge, including the values and beliefs, of health professions different from their own discipline that will enable them to define interprofessional health care delivery or research Students will:

How will C3 happen? • To achieve the C3 goals, 4 collaborative domains are proposed: • C3 Curricular Domain • C3 Extracurricular Domain • C3 Teaching Scholars Academy (TSA) Domain • C3 Clinical Effectiveness and Patient Safety Domain

Evaluation of C3 • C3 is a 10-year program, and a status report is due at the end of 5 years • A Quality Improvement approach is inherent in the planning/evaluation process • Evaluation will include: • assessment of learner outcomes (C3 goals) • assessment of Domain activities
On-Site Review Focus (Mar 07) • Creative Topic • Long term improvement of student learning • Engagement of all campus constituencies • Defined methods of assessment • Assessments must have action • Plan must contain: • Timelines • Leadership • Resources • Assessment schedule QEP (C3) is the last hurdle regarding SACS Accreditation Thank You!
