1975 – 2000: The Early Years – Pen and Paper to CAPI in 2001 –(1) • Pilot from print to CAPI 2000 • CAPI pro’s = print con’s • 48 pages (2009) x 25 000 = +/- 10 000 trees (estimated no. of trees, not true research) • Improved original contact rate • Print costs in long run, print lead time • Store questionnaires
2001 – 2008: The Millennium –SC Questionnaires and CAPI-(2) • Enhanced control( skip, 4/5 issues, supplements) • In overnight • Spread (week and day) • Check on individual interviewers • 15% check back faster • Capture & coding
2001 – 2008: The Millennium –SC Questionnaires and CAPI-(3) • Second 6 month update, sure use correct version • More professional • Results – data compared well • Complex questions with long pre-coded lists show differences, with CAPI largely being lower
2009 – Double Screen CAPI(DS-CAPI) - 1 AMPS audit 2007 –Erhard MeierWith DS-CAPI mastheads and show cards are on a separate computer screen/laptop that is handed to respondent. The interviewer’s laptop and the respondent’s screen/laptop are linked and are so programmed that the right mastheads and show cards come up on the respondent’s screen/laptop at the right questions.
2009 – Double Screen CAPI(DS-CAPI) - 2 • DS-CAPI pro’s = CAPI con’s • Control enhanced even more than with CAPI • Shuffle cards (9 on screen, 26 screens) –random • Show cards (Erhard , balance laptop, ring bound) • Print costs in long run • Title confusion
2009 – Double Screen CAPI(DS-CAPI) - 3 • Mastheads cards visual prompt 6 month filter, follow up? verbal prompt, now visual each time • Qualitative feedback from field de-briefing: • Respondent curious & attention kept • Scared (just watch screen) • Flow more smoothly • Less of a “balancing act” • Results, October 2009 (perhaps at next PAMRO) VIDEO will give more information
