My wife and I returned to Canada at the end of 2008 after completing our teaching degrees and teaching in New Zealand. Originally from Toronto, we moved to London in 2008, where my wife began her Masters of Education full time at the University of Western Ontario. Declining roll numbers and changes in the school boards has had a horrible effect on the teaching market in Southwestern Ontario, which has prevented me from returning to the classroom. We currently work as researchers for the University of Western Ontario’s Faculty of Education, and as educational consultants for the National Post’s Newspapers in Education Department, supplying secondary and tertiary teachers with digital resources to assist teaching and learning. Downtown London, Ontario.
After a year of listening, discussing and proof reading my wife’s graduate studies in education, I became determined to return to the classroom and build upon my educational interests. In my last full time teaching position, I supervised trainee teachers on placement, many of whom completed their teaching qualifications via distributed learning models. Those experiences shaped my interest in teacher education and online teaching and learning. When I discovered that TRU-OL was offering a new program, the Grad. Cert. in Online Teaching and Learning, I enrolled and to date have completed EDDL 510 and EDDL 511 towards the certificate.
I am looking forward to EDDL 513, and discussing the pedagogical strategies and practices associated with multimedia in the curriculum and developing resources and plans for future use. My expectations for this course would include identifying and experimenting with multimedia tools and creating practice examples for my teaching portfolio. Once I complete the Graduate Certificate, I would like to return to the classroom for a couple of years, before pursuing my Masters in Education with a focus on teacher education and distributed learning.
All in all, most people would describe me as a passionate and dedicated individual who loves education, and exploring new concepts and new adventures. I am an easy going and approachable individual and hope all of us can create a learning community in this course to assist and support each other week in and week out. Over the next couple of weeks, I look forward to meeting and working with each of you. Cheers, Saša
