Hosea • HOSEA (Hoh see' uh) Personal name meaning, "salvation." • Title of the first book in the section of the Hebrew Bible called the Book of the Twelve, named after its prophetic hero.
Hosea (background) • An Old Testament Prophet and author of the book Hosea • The Son of Beeri • Ministered in the Northern Kingdom of Israel just before the fall of this nation in 722 B.C.
Hosea (background) • One of the most unusual prophets of the Old Testament • Commanded by God to marry a prostitute by the name of Gomer • She eventually went back to prostitution • Hosea bought her back from the slave market and restored her as his wife
Hosea (background) • His unquestioned obedience to God demonstrated he was a prophet who would follow the Lord’s Will, regardless of the cost • His life echoed the message that “God is Love”
