Personal Finance: Budgeting Students will use the Internet & Chapter one: pages 3-4 from the “How to Do Your Banking” workbook to complete the exercise “What kind of car do you want?” • Students will find pictures and prices of cars that they are interested in and create a PowerPoint presentation comparing prices of various cars. • What is your dream car??? • Can you afford that? Probably not right now!!! • So… let’s choose a more affordable used car… • You are gonna need… insurance, gas maintenance, oil changes, etc. • Students will use online services to visit a motor vehicle dealership and obtain documentation to • learn the price of a vehicle including taxes, • maintenance, and • other incidental costs that maybe required.

(Ask your parents & use the Internet) • What is the name and price of two rental properties in McComb, MS. (Use the Internet) • How much is an average mortgage in this area? (Ask your parents & use the Internet) • Find local real estate companies on the Internet price a home. Provide the URL for sources of information that you use.

Create a budget based off of the answers they give you using Microsoft Excel. • How much money do you make in a month? What is your career? • Is this a sufficient amount of money per month? What would you like to change about your job? • What are your monthly expenses for home phone, cell phone, water, lights, gas for home, gas for car, rent/mortgage, car insurance, leisure, etc? • How much money is left at the end of the moth? • Reflection question for the student: What is your career choice? How much money does this profession make? Is it enough for you to live off of?

The site should tell about the group’s activities, upcoming events, and so forth. Entrepreneurship • Students will list and describe 3 things that they or their parents have purchased from the internet. • If students have never used the internet to shop they will browse websites for their favorite brands and try to discover how to make purchases online. • Use the Internet to explain the twelve myths of e-commerce and how to avoid falling victim to them. • Evaluate a Website that purchases can be made on. (use the Evaluating Websites form on my webpage) • Entrepreneurship Worksheet. (1/29/13) Use Microsoft Word to setup a website for a fictitious business. You are the entrepreneur of a specialty shop. • Create a Logo • Include pages that have pictures, a theme, the “history” of the business; as well as owners/contact information, & a mission statement. • Have at least 10 items for sale. Include Pictures. Use the Internet to find the price of the item or similar items. Give the link back to the original document. • Set up a shopping cart. (use google to find out about internet businesses such as paypal that allow online purchasing to be rerouted through a different website. • Use Microsoft Excel to create a receipt for items purchased at business; include logo and name as owner.   11. Homework: Sartin Entrepreneurship Report & Presentation • Turn in a three page typewritten report or PowerPoint presentation. This report must have no more than a one inch margin on both sides and on the top and bottom. It must be single-spaced. If typed – no larger font size then 12. • Interview the owner (or an employee) of a local business. (Suggestions: restaurants, movie theaters, flower shops, dollar stores, card shops, print shop, gift shops, grocery store, clothing store, fitness or recreation provider, credit unions, banks, insurance agencies, real estate companies, contractors, utilities, government, fast food restaurants, etc.). • If you have a family member, aunt, uncle, grandparent, or neighbor that works for a business, you may interview them. • Your report should contain a well-rounded picture of that business and how they operate.
