  1. What is Take back the Tap? It is a student run campaign to ban the selling of bottled water on the AU campus.

  2. Economic Reasons • TAP water is free! • An ounce of water is more expensive than an ounce of gasoline

  3. Safety • DC water is tested 300 times per month • Regulations are much more strict for tap water • Chemicals can leech into your water by using disposable plastic bottles

  4. The Food and Drug Administration regulates only the 30 to 40 percent of bottled water sold across state lines

  5. U.S. plastic bottle production requires more than 17 million barrels of oil, enough to fuel one million Cars.

  6. About 86 percent of the empty plastic water bottles in the United States land in the garbage instead of being recycled

  7. It’s a human rights issue • Put pressure on the government to provide basic necessities, don’t outsource to corporations • Privatizing water makes it inaccessible to those who can’t afford it

  8. How do I get involved? • We have meetings every Thursday night at 7pm in MGC • Sign our petition • Make the pledge to drink tap instead of bottled water
