Where am I supposed to sit? • Always sit where you are assigned. This will make it easier for me to learn your names. • Don’t be surprised if you have a new seat next week.
Will the teacher treat me as a human being? • Yes. I will lead a respectful and disciplined classroom. To achieve this I have established a few simple policies. As a student, it is your responsibility to comply with these policies. If you decide not to comply, there will be logical consequences. By enforcing these policies, I promise to you fairness and order in our classroom.
Rules in the classroom • Be Ready to Learn! • Be Respectful! • Be Accountable! • Be Positive! Think Win-Win • 1st incident- Verbal Warning • 2nd incident- Chill Zone and Student/Teacher Conference • 3rd incident- Focus Room and Call Home • 4th Incident- Principal’s Referral and Phone Call Home
Beginning of class • Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class. You are to enter the classroom without screaming, running or otherwise causing a ruckus. Students who do not do this will be asked to leave the room and reenter as expected. • Attendance Sticks- pick your stick and place it in the ‘I’m Here’ tin. This should be done by the time class begins. Otherwise you will be considered tardy. • You should then get anything you need around the room (folder, pencil sharpening, tissue, etc.). Once seated, check the whiteboard or projector for the day’s bellwork or assignment. You can also use this time to briefly speak with me.
Bellwork • Everyday check for bellwork or instructions. You will find the bellwork on the whiteboard or projector. Bellwork should be started as the tardy bell rings. Most bellwork will involve answering a question or completing a sentence. Sometimes there will be instructions for your to follow to get prepared for that days class. • Bellwork is required and will be checked periodically. • Needs to be kept in your folder and must be dated for points!!! • Keep them organized!!!
On work you turn in • Always include your • First and last name • Class and hour (FCS, 4th) • Date
Handing in your work • Homework and assignments carried over from the last class period are due at the beginning of the hour, unless I tell you otherwise. Assignments must reflect your best work or they may be returned for you to improve. • Place assignments in your hours turn-in bin.
Hot Slip • Everyone must hand something in on the assignment due date. If you have not completed the assignment, you will need to fill out a hot slip and hand that in. • They are located on top of the turn in box. If you choose not to complete a Hot Slip, an automatic zero will be given. Please be aware of the cost of your decision.
How I get your attention: Hand Raising Procedure: • Mrs. Wubker will politely say, “May I have your attention please.” and raise her hand. • When you see Mrs. Wubker’s hand raised you should: • Finish your sentence, not paragraph, and stop talking. • Raise your hand. • DO NOT put your hand down till the teacher does.
How I get your attention • Mimicing: • Mrs.Wubker: “Hey, hey (7th or 8th) Grade!” • Students: “Hey, hey Mrs. Wubker!”
Tardies and Late Arrivals • A student who is not in the classroom by the beginning of class, is considered either late or tardy. • A student is tardy if he is without a pass. • A student is late if he arrives with a pass. There is no penalty for arriving late with a pass. • See student handbook for tardy consequences.
End of Class • The clock does not dismiss the class, I do. **Do not line up at my door.
Absent • It will be your responsibility to find out what you missed when absent. • On the day you return from an absence you should arrive early to class and ask fellow students what you have missed. • Always get the bell work that you missed. • If you still have further questions ask me before class OR see me before school. • Write the word ‘absent’ across the top of any work you are turning in late due to an absence, otherwise, I will assume the paper is late and late work consequences will apply.
Make-up Test • If you have an excused absence for a test day you will have to arrange for a make-up test (either before or after school). You will have one week, beginning the date you return to make-up the test.
Hall Passes/Leaving Class • If you need to leave class for any reason, you must follow the correct procedure. Anyone that leaves the classroom must sign out and back in again using the Hall Pass Log. • It will always be in it’s designated location. • Only one person may leave the room at a time. • You must sign the log. • Only 3 passes will be granted per quarter. Excessive use or misuse of this policy may result in loss of daily points and/or disciplinary action. It is your responsibility to keep track of your hall pass slip. I will not distribute extra copies.
If you are not prepared for class • Student Station- If you are missing something for class this is where you may get it. • If you forgot an item you have to give me something in return. Your item(s) will be returned when you return my item(s). • Sensory Items- If they hit the floor you lose them. • My desk is always OFF LIMITS!!!
Emergency Procedures • All procedures are posted next to the door. • Fire • Earthquake • Intruder • Tornado
Computer Use • The computers in the classroom are school property and should be treated as such. The computers are for the sole purpose of completing tasks I have assigned. It is not a time for students to perform personal activities that are unrelated to class. • Your parent and yourself will have to sign a web 2.0 contract giving you permission to use my computers.
Laboratory Experiences • Before working in the lab you will need to have a parent or guardian sign and return your laboratory guideline permission slip.
What will I be doing this year? • During class time you will be learning through a combination of hands on activities, laboratory experiences, small and large group work, demonstrations, games, and class discussions. • Participation is very important in this class when we are involved in any type of activity. It is essential that you participate. Participation leads to individual and group success.
How will I be graded? • The grade scale in the student handbook will be used. • Grades will be based on daily assignments, tests, quizzes, participation, projects (group and individual), laboratory procedures, and other activities as assigned. • Students should utilize the SIS system to monitor their progress.
Your First Assignment • Return the signature sheets by January 17stfor 15 points.
