2. Housekeeping • Roll call and commitment level assessment • New applicants • Summary of the last two trips to Honduras in Feb and March • 2 marriages and 4 baptisms in Mirador • La Colonia is now also preparing families for the Sacraments • Website

3. Mission Statement • To fortify the mission already begun by Franciscan University by helping to continue the journey of building the Catholic Faith, the development of high moral standards, the development of good medical and dental health practices and improvement to the general well being of the people of La Colonia and Mirador in Northeastern Honduras.

4. Mission Status • Confirmed mission date: departing Saturday, October 4th. Returning Saturday the 11th • Confirmed Sacramental and Catechetical content via Fr. Felipe • Awaiting guidelines from the medical team to decide our capabilities • Both communities are preparing for our arrival • Campamento & TB confirmed – Max 56 people • Need to move forward with fundraising ASAP

5. Where we will stay • The Franciscan School and its families have offered to host us in San Pedro Sula • We will either sleep at the school or in host family homes • Campamento Resort has room for 28 people • Tranquility Bay has room for 28 people • Teams will be split (by team if possible) into these two facilities

6. Daily Mission • On a daily basis • Teaching morality and English to the school children • Ongoing improvements to the church buildings and grounds • Medical and dental clinics in the morning • Medical & dental health teachings to all • Teachings on the Sacraments to the Catholic children in the afternoons

7. Our away Teams • Sacramental • Daily mass, anointing the sick, blessing homes, confessions, baptisms, marriages • Catechetical • Morning morality & English teaching, afternoon teaching on the Sacraments • Medical/Dental • Daily clinics, daily health lessons, • Logistics • Support for all aspects of the mission

8. Our Teams • All team members will participate in: • Improvements to Church buildings & grounds • Daily mass • Community Meals • Remember that each team is split in two with half going to Mirador and half in La Colonia • Each team should discern two leaders with one being responsible for each community.

9. The Home Team • The part of the team that “sends” the rest • Fundraising from parish community • Logistical support at home • Gathering of materials • Purchasing of goods • Preparation of activities and associated supplies for the children

10. Fundraising • Each missionary must raise at least $2,000 • Additional funds through parish family donations. • Fundraising goal = $200,000 • Each missionary should “raise” their own funds by inviting others into your mission • Those that send and those that go

11. The Needs • 4x4 pickup for Fr. Felipe • Medical & Dental equipment for Finca Clinic • Raise the roof on Mirador chapel • Signs for the front of each chapel • Generators and associated spare parts, etc. • Lighting • Traveling medical and dental equipment

La Colonia Chapel • Sign for the front of the chapel • Mortar to cover the bricks • Texture to paint • Paint • Adornment of the altar • Grounds around the chapel – plants, gardens • Stations of the Cross (Fr. Stan) • Tabernacle • Walkway to the bathrooms • Shelves, etc for the sacristy • Rock Altar

13. Mirador Chapel • Concrete floor in sacristy • Sign for the front of the chapel • Raise the roof 18” • Raised altar area • Altar • Drainage in front of the church • Addition of bathrooms (missionary’s use, too) • Painting and beautification of building and grounds

14. Sacramental Team • Secure 4 priests for the trip (Fr. Tim, Fr. Luta, Fr. Tom(?)+ 1) • Prepare liturgy books • Mass kits x 2 • Oils for baptisms and anointing • Prayer teams to go into homes with priests

15. Catechetical Team • Discern themes for the morning morality teachings from those remaining in the document provided • Develop English lessons x 3 • Discern and develop teachings on the Sacraments • Develop homily themes to coincide with the other teachings • Send a team to the FINCA everyday • Music for liturgy and P&W

16. Medical Team • Determine your capabilities and establish a set of goals • Determine your needs to accomplish your goals and develop a wish list of items • Develop a set of patient protocols for check in, filing of information, etc. • Remember that we will see these same villages again on future missions • Finca Pharmacy and Dental involvement?

17. Medical Issues that we know/see • Diabetes • Cuts from machetes • Many pregnant women • Broken bones from falls • Open wounds • Develop/discern General health teachings • <discussion>

18. Dental Team • Extractions without suction • Can we develop a third-world tooth replacement option? • Develop/discern Dental Health teachings • Portable Equipment • FINCA Dental Clinic • Long-term ideas

19. Some things to keep in mind • There are other medical and dental missions going to Trujillo (CtK in June is HUGE). • Referrals & follow up – reciprocally • We don’t have to re-invent all of the wheels (though we are doing what nobody else has tried) • I go down at least 4 times per year • 2 x scouting trips • FUS and StAoP • Point is that if we coordinate our efforts, we can do more.

20. Logistical Team • 2 buses – to take us to and from Trujillo • 4 – 4x4 trucks • Radios • Generators • Lights • Patient transport • Team member transport • Backup equipment • Fuel • Community dinner food purchases (Wed. night) x 2 • Support for each team as they need it

21. Draft Schedule • Friday night, October 3rd – Mission Night • Mass + Praise & Worship, Reconciliation • Have the community pray over us • Early to bed • Saturday, 6:15am leave for the airport • Arrive San Pedro Sula at 11:45am • Lunch in the airport, pick up trucks, change money, meet the buses • Take buses to local market in San Pedro Sula • 3pm – to Franciscan School • Adoration, mass, dinner, community time • Overnight in San Pedro Sula (school or host families)

22. Draft Schedule • Sunday • Meet at Franciscan School at 7:30am • Depart for Trujillo at 8am • Lunch in La Ceiba • Arrive in Trujillo at ~4:00pm • Possible dinner with Bishop Sole and Fr. Felipe • Pack trucks for early morning supply run

Draft Schedule • Monday • 5am – Depart in trucks with supplies • 7:00am – Breakfast • 8:00am – Mirador Team leaves in trucks and begins mission in Mirador • 8:00am – Mike G leads La Colonia team to FINCA for a “come and see” • 10:00am – La Colonia Team leaves in trucks and begins mission in La Colonia • 5pm – Trucks begin shuttle back to camp ** Option for some to stay overnight in chapels - <discussion>

24. Draft Schedule • Tuesday – Thursday • Full days in the mission field • 6am breakfast, then shuttles to the mountain as quickly as possible – Medical and Logistics Teams first • Lunch each day will be an individual sack lunch • Dinner at your hotel • Wednesday evening meal in the communities • Friday • 7am breakfast • 8am depart for mass at PuertaCastilla • 5pm Arrive airport to turn in trucks, boarding passes, departure tax • 7pm meet families at Franciscan School • Saturday – 8am meet at Franciscan School, then to airport

25. Next Step • FUNDRAISING • We can’t go on mission without mission funds • Your $2,000 should be raised through Mission Partners • You should send a Mission Update to your Mission Partners on a regular basis keeping them a part of our mission • Your costs ~$1,430 • The goal is to have all funds for the mission raised by August 1st. • Some funds already have to be paid out (e.g. 25% hotel deposits) • Sample letters on the website

Keys to Effective Fundraising • Tell your personal story of what draws you into mission • Impact – tell people what it is that we’re doing • Show pictures of the chapels and children • Tell how we’re trying to save a dwindling Catholic Community and improve their health and wellbeing • Ask – don’t be afraid to ask for what we need. • Pictures and copies of this presentation will be on the website

27. What we need • Prayers • Mission Funds - $200,000 (~$130,00 from your $2k) • Mission donations of medical goods, generators, lighting, electrical cords, pharmacy goods • Chapel items – monstrance, tabernacles, chalices, patens, linens, etc.
