  1. Nace 74 and 82 Development of new indices Maria Ädel

  2. Content • Overview • Execution • Research, pilot study • Sample • Method • Why these industries? • Expected result • Challenges

  3. Overview 74 Professional, scientific and technical activities • 74.1 Specialised design activities (23,9%) • 74.2 Photographic activities (8,4%) • 74.3 Translation and interpretation activities (14,1%) • 74.9 Other scientific and technical activities (53,6%)

  4. Overview 82 Office administrative, office support and other business support activities • 82.1 Office administrative and support activities (7,6%) • 82.2 Activities of call centres (29,3%) • 82.3 Organisation of conventions and trade shows (24%) • 82.9 Business support service activities • 82.91 Activities of collection agencies and credit bureaus (14,6%) • 82.92 Packaging activities (15,5%) • 82.99 Other business support activities (9%)

  5. Execution • Project group, 3 all working with PPI and SPPI • Research • Method • Contacting NA • Pilot study, April-May (Survey design) • Project report (Eurostat) • Final report (Swedish) • Project ends August 2014 • In production as of 2015

  6. Research • 15 company visits, 2 telephone meetings • International comparison: France (82.190, 82.200, 82.300) Great Britain (74.200, 74.300, 82.100, 82.920) • Company visits were useful when formulating questions in the forms for pilot study. For instance we figured that it is common that companies instantly reckon that they cannot be part of the survey when using standardized questions. However, the freedom to adjust depending on the topic may prevent loss in sample. Also the company visits gave us more knowledge about the industries

  7. Sample • Probability Proportional to Size (PPS) using turnover data • Sample is drawn based on company, size (cutoff) and Nacecode • Weights are based on size and companies that are large enough represent themselves. Smaller companies represent a group

  8. Method • Direct measure of transactions from representative service would be optimal • Most likely time based measures in most categories • Geometric mean for price changes of companies, geometrically weighed for industry. Arithmetic mean for total SPPI. Laspeyres type index. • Published quarterly

  9. Why these industries? • EU grants project • Relatively large • Requested by NA, there are turnover data for these groups and hence SPPI can be used as deflator

  10. Expected result • Nace74 and 82 included in the production system and published as of Q1 2015 • Will increase coverage total SPPI

  11. Challenges • Misclassifications • Short period of time to perform a pilot study • Time as component will most likely be the most common measuring method

  12. Discussion… • Thank you!
