  1. Mrs. Naglack’s Class I am here to teach; you are here to learn. I will do my job; you will do yours, and we will together use this semester wisely and beneficially. Positive attitude is the key to success. Let’s keep it all the time.

  2. Who is Mrs. Naglack?? • Born in Warren, Arkansas • Married 11 years • Two children: Linda - 8, Isabella - 6 • I was in the Air Force for 5 years as a paralegal • Enjoy time at home with family, reading, traveling, sleeping in and working puzzles.

  3. Will this teacher treat mefairly? Absolutely! The same guidelines and consequences apply to everyone. No exceptions

  4. How will I be graded? Tests 60% • Vocabulary Test • Unit tests • Projects • Presentations Daily 40% • Quizzes • Participation • Class work • Journals • Fitness Log

  5. When you walk through the door, you are entering a “No Whining Zone”.You are here to learn and I am here to teach.We are all happy to be here and will work together. What is expected of me in thisclassroom?

  6. Class Contract • Bring all books and materials to class • Be prepared to begin as soon as you walk through the door. • Treat each person in this room with respect and dignity. • Follow directions the first time given.

  7. How do you begin your class? • Make sure you have all necessary materials for the class. You will not be allowed to go to your locker for anything. • Sharpen pencils before sitting down. • Do your journal work.You will complete these tasks silently while I take attendance and read class/school announcements.

  8. What happens if I break thecontract? • You will be pink (or another color) slipped! • You will read it, sign it, and see me after class…daam-daam-dummm

  9. What happens if I follow thecontract? • You will receive verbal praise. • Our classroom will be stress free. • Everything will be pleasant and orderly. • You will keep yourselves and your teacher (this is most important!) happy. • Your class will receive occasional rewards…snacks, computer time, 15 minutes off…it just depends…

  10. Always follow the contract!OR… • 1st– Pink slip warning and documentation • 2nd–lunch detention • 3rd – Parent Contact • 3rd– Referral • SEVERE CLAUSE– Profanity, Fights, and Damage to Property. You lose your opportunity to follow the steps.

  11. WHY DO WE HAVE PROCEDURES? • A procedure is the way that we do things. You have a procedure for everything. • To do things right, we have to follow some simple procedures, for example: • To open your locker, you have to select your combination as directed by the lock manufacturer. • To place a call on your phone, you need to enter the number in the right order. • This classroom also has procedures.

  12. Where should I sit? • I will give you assigned seats • The seating will be adjusted at any time to provide us with a pleasant, learning atmosphere.

  13. Entering the Room • Enter quietly. • Place belongings at your desk and sharpen pencils • Have a seat in your assigned location. • Take out materials. • Review the day’s agenda and objectives. • Begin your opening assignment.

  14. Tardiness • You will know you are tardy by the door being closed. • Enter quietly, walk to the back of theroom to the tardy desk. Here you will fill out a tardy slip (if you do not have a pass already) and stay seated in the tardy desk until I have finished talking. You will not interrupt the classroom. • Take out your materials and begin your work. • Remember: 4 tardies = 1 referral

  15. Getting Your Attention • I will stand in the front of the room. • I will raise my hand. • You will turn to face me and be quiet. • I will begin speaking.

  16. Labeling Your Papers • On the top right corner of your paper, place the following heading on all assignments: • Name/Block • Assignment Title • Date • You will earn 1 extra credit point for doing this…it’s all or none.

  18. What if I don’t have my work? • You will fill out a Student Responsibility Card and turn it in with the rest of the class’s work. • You must explain why you do not have the work when it is due, sign it, and date it. • This card is kept in my file as documentation.

  19. What if I finish my class work early? • Continue work on an unfinished assignment • Read • Study quietly • Get a head start on homework

  20. What if I’ve been absent? • After an EXCUSED absence… • 1-Look at the make-up book and find any handouts/worksheets with your name on it. • 2- Read the activities for the day(s) you were out. • 3- Get any needed handouts out of the notebook. • If you missed a test because of your excused absence, inform me and arrange a time to make up the test during the next Seminar. • You have the exact number of days you were absent to turn-in any make-up work

  21. What do I do during instruction time? • Listen to the teacher with full attention. • No pencil sharpening, talking, or whispering. • Ask permission to speak by raising your hand. • Ask questions related to the subject. Other questions which are not related to the subject can be asked after instruction. • After instruction, make sure you understand the concept. If not, ask questions by mentioning which part you didn’t understand.

  22. During a class discussion • Please participate. • I want to hear from everyone! • Keep comments relevant to current discussion. • If it is off topic—write it down and ask it later.

  23. Moving Around the Room • Don’t do it unless you have raised your hand and asked permission. • Do not ask to move around the room during a discussion or while I am giving instructions.

  24. Class Dismissal • You are dismissed by your teacher. • Do not pack up or throw trash to wastebasket—I will tell you when it’s time to “pack up and clean up.” • Wait until you hear, “Have a Nice Day.”

  25. Special Procedures • These will be introduced on an as needed basis: • Library • Progress reports • Cooperative Learning • Intercom announcements • Assemblies • Substitute • Guests
