  3. Why is E.P.A.S. important? AHS Mission Statement • It is the mission of Algonac High School to provide a supportive, rigorous, and internationally minded learning experience for students of all abilities. • Upon graduation, A.H.S. students will possess the ability to: • Succeed in a post-secondary educational setting • Compete, thrive, and philanthropically contribute within the emerging global society • Exhibit exemplary moral behaviors

  6. College Readiness Benchmark Scores The EXPLORE and PLAN College Readiness Benchmark Scores are based on the ACT College Readiness targets. They reflect students’ expected growth from EXPLORE to PLAN to the ACT and assume sustained academic effort throughout high school. College Readiness Benchmark Score EXPLORE PLAN ACT English 13 15 18 Math 17 19 22 Reading 15 17 21 Science 20 21 24 ACT Subject Area Test Early Indicators of College Readiness Students who meet a Benchmark on the ACT have ≈ 50% chance of earning a B or better and ≈ 75% chance of earning a C or better in the corresponding college course or courses.

Scholarship Money… An Example • Presidential Scholar Program$15,000 – Full tuition annuallyGeneral Eligibility Criteria: High school GPA of 3.5/4.0 scale and • ACT composite of 27 or SAT combined score of 1210 • Pilgrim Scholar Program$10,000 - $16,000 annuallyGeneral Eligibility Criteria: High school GPA of 3.2/4.0 scale and • ACT composite of 24 or SAT combined score of 1090 • Achievement Scholar Program$9,000 - $13,000 annuallyGeneral Eligibility Criteria: High school GPA of 2.8/4.0 scale and • ACT composite of 21 or SAT combined score of 980 • PROVE THIS WITH YOUR OWN RESEARCH!!!

  11. As a parent…. • Encourage full effort on E.P.A.S. Assessments • Ask for (and review) the score report (with your student) • Discuss college goals and research minimum requirements (and scholarship levels) • Set high goals • Communicate your needs to subject area teachers • Encourage practice and seek help!

  13. How to Improve (FREE)…. • Go to www.mel.org • Click on databases • Choose Learning Express Library • Click on College Preparation option • First time users create a username and password. No other info is requested. Must go through MeL link to be recognized as Michigan user with free access.

  15. As a school…. • Staff that knows and reacts to your students ‘data’ • Develop and offer interventions for those that desire/need them • Deliver a curriculum rich in ACT Readiness Standards • Communicate with stakeholders

As a student…. • Give full effort on E.P.A.S. assessments • Devote time to reviewing score sheets and working on areas that need improvement • Communicate needs to parents and teachers • Seek interventions • Set goals in consultation with parents • Research colleges and their requirements • Practice!
