Write four sentences about yourself and make only three of them true. • I am a writer. • Meatballs are my favorite food. • I moved here from California. • I have seven pets. • I currently teach second grade. • My radio plays only country music. • I’ve been arrested for a misdemeanor. • I can’t dance. • I consider myself a phenomenal cook.

  5. Writing can be used as a means of learning. Students can synthesize the content of science, social studies, and mathematics with engaging writing activities. This kind of writing throughout the curriculum strengthens a student’s writing ability and helps him better understand the content and specialized vocabulary of the subjects.

Write and illustrate interesting facts and discoveries on each month’s page. • Compile a booklet of first aid procedures for a school, a home, or a camping trip. • Make a directory of plants, land forms, birds, arachnids, or reptiles. Draw 15 or more of each. Label and write distinguishing characteristics. • Write directions for making a bug catcher or for preserving animal tracks.
