  1. Formatting in APA From the BHS Reading and Writing Handbook

  2. General Guidelines • Typed • Double Spaced • 1 inch margins • 12 point font

  3. Running Header • Page number should be flush right • On the left margin, type: • Running Head: YOUR TITLE • Title of your essay should be in all caps

  4. Title Page • Centered on the page, place your title • Below your title, type your name • Below your name, type your institution name (Brunswick High School) • Finally, type the date in the following format: day month year

  5. Abstract

  6. In Text Citations • Use the author-date-page number method of in-text citation • Example (Jones, 1998, p. 25) • Place your period after the parantheses if the quote is at the end of the sentence

  7. References page • Includes all sources used to write the essay • Will be placed at the end of the essay on its own page • Title the page References • List all sources alphabetically by author • Double space the list • Indent all lines after the first line of each reference
