  1. Welcome to RELA! Let’s go over some basics / procedures so you can know what to expect and what I expect. (These notes are your 1st grade. Copy everything in yellow.)

  2. What is RELA? In RELA, we strengthen some key reading / language arts concepts.

  3. YOU can expect: • KNOWSYS • Reading multiple texts at a time

  4. ENTERING THE ROOM • Enter 1 at a time • Enter quietly • Seated & get started

  5. BACKPACKS / PURSES Put on the hooks Get anything you need out before class: leave them alone during class

  6. TARDIES:To avoid confusion: • If the door is closed and you aren’t inside:: you are tardy. • Get a pass / note made on HAC

  7. To avoid confusion: *There is no negotiating a tardy. *There is no discussion. *There is no excuse requested / required.

  8. You will receive a pencil without an eraser from me. Give it back Note made in HAC

  9. PARENT CONTACT • For good and bad • Notes are made in HAC

  10. COMMUNICATION If you want my help, • Raise your hand If I want your attention • I’ll raise my hand

  11. THE PLEDGE / ANNOUNCEMENTS • Stand for the pledge • Say the pledge • SILENCE during announcements

  12. Interruptions / When someone Knocks • Keep working • Keep silent They can’t have you until they talk to me.

  13. ROAR Copy daily - this is your notice / responsibility

  14. MAKE UP WORK • Pick up from bookshelf near the door • Check the website

  15. TUTORING • After school • Wednesdays, Thursday and Friday • Stay the entire period

  16. MOVEMENT • Sharpen pencils / get notebooks before class • Check the schedule: you’re in here during this time You leave your area only if I give permission to move to another assigned area.

  18. EMERGENCIES • Remain calm & await instruction.

  19. OTHER’S PROPERTY / SPACE • If it isn’t yours, don’t touch it. • Keep to your area.

  24. EXITING THE CLASS • Released by teacher • Areas must be neat • Books placed under desk • You will be dismissed by rows • You will get your backpack as you exit

  25. If you want to see the counselor, coach, attendance office, principal, another teacher, find another time to do it.

  26. No, No, No • Cell phones • Food / drink • Zzz *These aren’t happening, so don’t try it.

  27. EVERYONE PARTICIPATES • Everyone reads • Everyone cooperates • Everyone contributes

  28. Our class is set up to be as structured as possible. “Free time” is wonderful & on the weekends. If your work is completed early (which will occur rarely), you will visit the class library, select a book, read, & complete a summary or create stem questions.
