  1. The Missions in the Gospels

  2. There are five missions outlined in the Gospels: • John the Baptist, • Jesus, • the twelve and the seventy, • the Holy Spirit, • and the apostles.

  3. There are five missions outlined in the Gospels: • John the Baptist, • Jesus, • the twelve and the seventy, • the Holy Spirit, • and the apostles. In each of these we should be able to see three things: • who sent, • to whom, • and for what purpose.

  4. 1. John the Baptist: • John 1:6-9 – John was to bear witness of the Light • Mal. 4:5; Matt. 17:10-13 – Elijah is prophesied and John was the fulfillment of the prophesy • Mal. 4:6; Matt. 3:1-3 – he would turn the hearts of the people and John was preparing the way for the Lord

  5. 2. Jesus: • John 5:36 – Jesus had a greater mission than John • Matt. 15:24 – Jesus was sent only to Israel • John 12:46 – Jesus came to bring light to a dark world • John 14:6 – Jesus was preparing the way for man to come to God

  6. 3. Twelve and seventy: • Matt. 10:6; Luke 10:1 – go to the lost sheep of Israel • Matt. 10:7; Luke 10:9 – they were to preach the coming of the kingdom • Matt. 10:8; Luke 10:9 – they were to heal the sick

  7. 4. The Holy Spirit: • John 14:26 – He would teach • John 14:16-17; 16:7 – He would go to the apostles • John 16:8, 13-14 – He would convict the world and glorify Jesus

  8. 5. The apostles: • Matt. 28:18-20; Mark 16:15-18 – Jesus charged the apostles to take the Gospel into all the world • Luke 24:46-49 – they were to be His witnesses

  9. Each mission was preparatory for something to follow. We are now living in the preparatory time for the kingdom of heaven. When Jesus returns He will take those who are prepared to their heavenly home. Will you be prepared?
